Stunning White Peonies

I wish I could say these stunning white peonies came from our garden, but they did not. They came from the garden of a coworker friend of mine. When I spied this arrangement on her desk, I stopped dead in my tracks. At first I thought they weren't real, they looked so perfect. There were a few tightly closed buds too, which are now beginning to open, as you can see in the photos. On Friday, as she left work to go out of town, she asked if I'd like to take the peonies home to enjoy over Memorial Day weekend. Would I ever! There's nothing like gorgeous flowers to lift the spirit. Don't these flowers just make you smile?

I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. As we enjoy the holiday, let's keep in our hearts and minds all those who died while serving our country in the U.S. Armed Forces. Their service and sacrifice are deeply appreciated, and they are not forgotten.

  1. Claudia: They are gorgeous! I am about to go pick some of my pink peonies... the first time the plant has really bloomed after planting it three years ago! And luckily I staked it well before all the wind and rain.
Do you know you don't have any place or address on here for a return email to you? I looked at your profile too. Just didn't know if you were aware of that..or am I missing something? (could be!)
My daughter, who lives in D.C., is going again to the WWII memorial this weekend: a very special place, esp. this weekend...Wish my Father could have seen it (he was a bomber pilot in N. Italy).
    Enjoy this beautiful weather!

    1. Hi Libby,
I've added my contact info, per your suggestion. I did this once before, ever so briefly, and began getting spam emails, so I removed it. Spam is so annoying! Thanks for your comment and for following MLB.

  3. Beautiful Claudia! Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. I have four plants that have yet to flower this year. I bought some pink ones this week at the market. I'm so excited to watch them open!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  5. Not only are the flowers gorgeous, your first photo with the green background is a masterpiece.

There was a piece on the Today show this morning about the young men that stand guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. It was interesting and very poignant.

    1. Gee, thanks Steve. The green tile on our fireplace is one of our favorite features in the house, and I thought it would make a pretty backdrop. Glad you thought so!

  6. A reader named Beth asked what variety of peony this is. I'll try to find out and let you all know.

  7. Gorgeous Claudia! Peonies are perfect flowers and what a sweet colleague you have!!! I agree with Steve - the photos are great, especially the first one. Wow. Your house looks sooo nice.

Happy Memorial Day weekend and yes you have a military to be proud of. We visited Arlington cemetery in DC and what an honor that was.

  8. That was very thoughtful of your coworker to share her peonies with you! And they are stunning. There is something ebullient about the peony which reminds us of the opulence of the summer garden to come...
