Bake from Scratch Magazine

My husband bought me a gorgeous magazine at Barnes & Noble. It's the winter 2016 issue of Bake from Scratch. Beautifully designed and photographed, it is full of wonderful-sounding recipes and interesting articles. There's a short, informative piece about molasses, a profile of San Francisco's Tarine Bakery (I'm wondering if Mary Ann from Classic Casual Home has been there), and recipes ranging from dark chocolate to citrus to baking in a cast iron skillet, (note to self: get one of these).

The magazine is a feast for the eyes! Look for it at your local bookstore or purchase it at Hoffman Media's online store. Meanwhile, here's a sneak peek ...

What did I make first, you ask? You'll have to wait and see!

  1. Cast iron skillets are the best!! I like this set: http://www.worldmarket.com/product/lodge-5-quart-double-dutch-oven.do?&from=fn&clickid=3z4VSP0dL30u0MqQz3SfiSGZUkXSLiXVsSbjX80&camp=Aff:10078:84047:IR&utm_campaign=84047:IR&utm_source=10078&sharedid=&utm_medium=affiliate

It serves as both a skillet (which I use for everything) and a Dutch oven (soups, spaghetti sauce, beans, no-knead bread...). I received a $20 lodge skillet seven years ago and it keeps getting better as it ages!

    1. I am going to buy a cast iron skillet. We have a glass cook top (electric), so we'll need to be careful using the cast iron on it. But I've heard great things about them so I'm excited to try it.

    1. I'll give you a hint. It was one of the muffins pictured in the photos above! So, is Tartine wonderful? If there are lines out the door, I'm sure it is. That's how it was at Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker St. in Manhattan when I visited years ago. My dream is to own a bakery!

  3. I made the brownies yesterday and something did not seem right. I went on their Facebook page and they posted an error in their recipe. They forgot to add 4 eggs to the recipe. Definitely will be making these again.

    1. Thank you, Trudy, for making us aware of the error in the recipe for the "One Pound Chocolate Brownies" printed in the magazine! I'll make a note about the eggs in my copy.

  4. I made the brownies again and they were delicious! This past weekend we had a snowstorm so like you I have been going through the magazine. I made the Cherry Sweet Rolls and Pecan Crumble Coffeecake. They tasted as good as they looked in the magazine
