Vitamix Blender

A little over a week ago our local Whole Foods had a four-day Vitamix demonstration and sale. My husband and I have been talking about getting a Vitamix blender for quite a while -- a few years, at least. The evening I was at the store, the demonstration was coming to an end, but the representative was very nice and spent several minutes answering my questions. I returned to Whole Foods on the last day of the demo with my husband to get his opinion. The two of us use our blender all the time -- I use it almost daily to make breakfast smoothies. After seeing the Vitamix in action, Paul was just as impressed as I, if not more so, and we ended up purchasing the 7500 model in red. We got a good deal on it, as the only red machine left was on display. The rep also threw in a free filtration bag for making nut milks. The blender also comes with an awesome cookbook -- I can't wait to make some recipes from it.

Paul was super excited to get back into making smoothies, which is something he used to do on a very regular basis before he began going in to work so early (he's usually out the door by 6:30 am). It was cute to see him so pumped up about a blender.

We're both intrigued by the fact that the Vitamix can make hot soup right in the blender container. The motor is so fast and powerful that it heats up the contents when used on the high setting for several minutes. I'm not sure this is something I'll use it for, but you never know. For now I'm having fun making smoothies and adding new ingredients like apples and oranges. Since I like bits and pieces in my smoothies (the Vitamix rep looked at me like I was crazy when I told him that), I add certain ingredients like kale and walnuts toward the end and process them for less time.

Vitamix is easy to clean. Just give the container and lid a quick rinse under running water, then fill the container halfway with hot water and a drop of liquid dish detergent. Run it on high for a few seconds, then rinse.

Do you have a Vitamix blender or know someone who does? I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. What do you primarily use your blender for -- soups, smoothies, nut butters, something else? Please leave a comment and share your blender experiences.

  1. Love love love our Vitamix! We've had ours for a couple of years now. Since my husband and I became vegan, having a Vitamix was a game-changer! Now I can make all sorts of nut cheeses and sauces. I have made soup in it, but like your smoothies, I like my soups a bit chunky, so I've found my immersion hand blender works better than the Vitamix for soups. I love making salsa in it - (1) 28 ounce can of whole tomatoes, handful of cilantro, jalepeno, quarter onion, couple cloves of garlic, salt, and blend at the low speeds (or else too much air gets whipped in). The Vitamix also make great homemade peanut butter! I use 3/4 c salt roasted peanuts and 1/4 c honey roasted peanuts and then I add a bit of peanut oil to make it smoother. You almost think the motor may explode since its working pretty hard to churn those blades through the cream, but it is so good! Have fun with it!

    1. Thanks, Alison. I will share some of what I make with it, for sure. I'm not on Instagram (I spend too much time as it is on the computer, with blogs and Pinterest). The cookbook that came with the blender has some nice recipes I'd like to try.

  3. I have always been intrigued by the Vitamix but put off by the price. I love to make smoothies, though, so I use my immersion blender and a pitcher. Perhaps not as powerful - I can't put in whole fruits or make soup - but I can still manage a great smoothie.

  4. We bought a Vitamix from Craigslist a few years ago. We basically only use it for smoothies although we did use it to make ground flax from flax seed.

  5. Love my Vitamix. I wanted one for years and my husband surprised me last year for my birthday. I feel it was worth the money since I will probably have it forever! I use it mostly for smoothies and soup but want to try making hummus. I love starting my day with a smoothie since I throw in all kinds of fruit and veggies and I never waster any fruit. Enjoy!

  6. Oh, those big ticket items are always such scary purchases. So happy you're enjoying yours. I think I use my blender once a decade, so I'm not in a hurry to get a Vitamix, but I'm always intrigued when they have a demo at Costco. I have friends who swear by theirs.

I made a great carrot soup yesterday, Martha's golden carrot soup from her cookbook, The MS Cookbook. An awesome recipe that always turns out. My Braun immersion blender finally bit the dust, so I'll have to find a replacement (or hey - use the counter-top blender!)

Enjoy your Vitamix and do share some of your recipes!
