Inspiration: Mid-century Modern Design

Mid-century modern is one of my favorite design styles. If you like mid-century modern too, I hope you'll enjoy these fun inspiration photos from Houzz.

The first is an expanded 1950s Joseph Eichler home.

The next home is shielded from the street by a pretty redwood privacy fence. All you can see is a bit of roof line. Behind the fence is a home painted a subtle sage green.

The next house is a dramatic Eichler remodel with an amazing courtyard. I really like how this house is furnished.

  1. I love every photo! The green sofa? My parents had one like it for-ev-ah. It was so comfortable you could actually spend an entire night sleeping on it without feeling racked in the morning. They had it for over 30 years and gave it and the matching armchairs away. What I'd give to have them today!

I love mid-century modern and have a ton of Scandinavian design books. I find the look modern, timeless and classic all in one happy, clean, luminous look.

Do you follow Frank Howarth from Frank Makes on YouTube? He often posts videos of the never-ending renovations on his mid-century modern house in Portland. I think you'd find them interesting.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

  2. We rent a 1926 bungalow in Tampa, and we have several pieces of midcentury furniture. I think the style helps brighten the space with its clean, minimal lines. Our neighborhood association hosts a historic home tour every April--maybe someday you can visit our great city!

    1. How wonderful ... a 1920s bungalow with mid-century furnishings! Sounds wonderful. We have a friend who used to live in Tampa, but we never made it down there for a visit. I love, love, love historic home tours. Wish I could make it to yours in April.
